6802 Flatcar w/ Girders

6802a.jpg

Production: 1958 & 1959

History
The 6802 Flatcar with US Steel Girders is an example where Lionel engineers used existing parts from other products to create a new freight car. In the case of the 6802, Lionel used the basic flatcar produced by Lionel in the late 1950's and added two girders from the 214 Girder Bridge as the freight load. Although it's a basic freight car, production numbers were low and locating this freight car is harder than most collectors realize.

Features
Standard features of this car include: unpainted red flatcar with white lettering, a brakewheel stand and brakewheel, corner footsteps, AAR trucks with operating couplers plus two girders. An elastic band was used to secure the girders to the freight car.

Additional Detail, Photos & Box Information

Only Known Variation - Shown in the photo above - All 6802 freight cars are red with two black girders.
