1053 Transformer

1053a.jpg

Production:  1956 - 1960

History
The 1053 Transformer is a medium-sized 60 watt transformer and can control a single set of trains. It is designed to operate small to mid-size layouts -- certainly no larger than on a 4' x 8' table.

As Lionel looked to reduce expenses in the late 1950s, this smaller transformer became the standard power supply in beginner sets -- replacing the 90 watt 1033 transformer from the early 1950s. Today, this transformer is frequently used to supply auxiliary power to accessories and switches or simply to operate a small set under the Christmas tree during the holiday season.

Features
Standard features on the 1053 include:

  • 60 watts
  • Single control to operate one train
  • Horn and whistle control button

It does not include a directional control handle or button.
