History
The 6012 Lionel gondola was introduced by Lionel in 1951 and was included in many beginner sets during that era. Lionel classified this freight car as an entry-level item and did not include any 'extras' with this item such as metal brakewheels nor barrels.

Features
Standard features on the 6012 Lionel gondola include: painted black body with white lettering, metal trucks and operating magnetic couplers at each end. 1951 production included staple-end trucks and sometime in 1952 converted to bar-end trucks

This gondola did not include any type of load nor brakewheels. Additionally, the metal base on the earlier gondolas was eliminated and the trucks were mounted directly to the plastic body.
