6822 Searchlight Car

6822a.jpg

Production: 1961 - 1969

History
The 6822 was a completely new searchlight car designed by Lionel. Prior to the 6822, all Lionel searchlight cars used a die-cast depressed center style flatcar. This new style allowed Lionel to produce a searchlight car using an existing flatcar mold while at the same time reduce the manufacturing time and cost.

Features
Standard features of the 6822 Searchlight Car include: red unpainted flatcar with white lettering, simulated control panel, man molded in blue rubber, illuminated searchlight plus a brakewheel stand and brakewheel. AAR trucks are standard for this car and usually included two operating couplers.

Additional Detail, Photos & Box Information
The small blue man usually came with flesh color painted face and hands. The simulated control panel was produced in both gray or black, both being equally available in the marketplace. The length of this flatcar is approximately 11 1/4" long (coupler to coupler).
