623 A.T. & S.F.
Production: 1952 - 1954
The 623 A.T. & S.F. NW2 switcher is a high quality switcher produced by Lionel in the early to mid 1950s. Except for the number, the external appearance is the exact same as the 622 A.T. & S.F. NW2 switcher from 1949 - 1950. The only significant internal difference is the 623 does not include the 622's bell ringing feature.
Standard features of the 623 includes: two axle Magnetraction, three-position E-unit, headlight at each end, dual operating coil type couplers, front marker lights, wire handrail plus GM & Santa Fe decals, black ornamental bell, silver ornamental horn and a radio wheel.
Additional Detail, Photos & Box Information
The only variation to the 623 diesel is the number of stantions holding the wire handrail to the cab.
Three stantions holding handrail - Shown in the photo above - The common variation.
Ten stantions holding handrail - This is a somewhat hard-to-find variation and experienced collectors believe the ten stantion version was only produced in 1952.
