Product Description

Production:  1948 - 1950

History
The 1005 is the first 8" short single dome tank car produced by Lionel. It was only included as an inexpensive tank car for the Scout sets produced between 1948 and 1950. In later years it was slightly modified and included in 027 starter sets of the mid-1950's. There is minimal collector interest in this tank car.

The 1005 ran for three years, 1948 - 1950. During that time it was always produced with Scout-style couplers. Due to the uncompatibility of the scout coupler with the remainder of the Lionel couplers, it is fairly common to find a 1005 with the scout couplers replaced with a standard Lionel knuckle couplers.

Features
Standard features of the 1005 were minimal. It included: unpainted gray body with blue lettering, single dome and scout-style couplers. The 1948 version has footsteps at each corner while the 1949 and 1950 production removed the footsteps from the manufacturing process.
