1101 Lionel Scout

Quantity:

Product Description

Production: 1948

History
The 1101 steam locomotive is frequently referred to as a Scout locomotive. Lionel used the word Scout to denote its entry-level 027 steam locomotives. Generally speaking, Scout engines had a 2-4-2 wheel arrangement and were reserved for beginner or starter sets. These locomotives had few features and could rarely pull more than a three or four car freight train.

The 1101 is an uncatalogued locomotive from 1948. Scout locomotives generally had a plastic boiler, however, the 1101 is one of a few Scout's to have a die-cast boiler. Although it is an uncatalogued one-year-only item, there is little collector interest in this steam engine.

Features
The 1101 Scout steam locomotive included the following features: black die-cast boiler with silver numbers, three position E-unit, a single metal drive rod on each side, headlight (without a headlight lens) plus an ornamental bell and whistle. Center rail contact was provided by copper sliding shoes and not the standard roller contacts.

A 1001 Lionel Scout non-whistling sheet metal tender was always included with the 1101 locomotive.
