152 Crossing Gate

History
The 152 Crossing Gate was a carryover accessory from Lionel's prewar era. Originally produced between 1940 and 1942, Lionel resumed production in 1945 immediately after the end of World War II.

One of the appealing features of the 152 is the separate pedestrian crossing arm. Although rarely seen in todays era of railroad crossings, the pedestrian arm was similar to many real life crossing gates of the 1930's and 1940s.

The 152 Crossing Gate is a temperamental trackside accessory. Properly tuning this item requires a high level of patience in addition to a fair amount of time. Lionel's 252 Crossing Gate -- which eventually replaced the 152 Crossing Gate -- was a significant step forward in reliability and consistency. The 152 is generally sort after by collectors, not operators.

Features
The 152 has the following features: red painted base, silver crossing gate and silver pedestrian arm. The crossing gate also contains a red light which is illuminated when the gate is activated to the down position.

Additional Detail, Photos & Box Information
Because of its inconsistent and sensitive operational behavior, many gates are found with the pedestrian arm removed. By removing this arm, the owner was able to improve the reliability of the gate. Locating replacement arms for 152 Crossing Gate is near impossible.

Only Known Variation - Shown in first photo above - All postwar versions have a red base with silver crossing arms.
