Product Description
Production: 1960
History
The 1882 steam engine was classified by Lionel as a General or Civil War style steam engine. The 1882 is model is an excellent model of a real-life American locomotive of the mid to late 1800s -- although the colors are a bit whimsical. Lionel classified the 1882 as an 027 gauge item and is similar to the 1862 General steam locomotive. Externally, the 1862 and 1882 locomotives are identical except for the colors.
The 1882 was an uncatalogued locomotive and frequently referred to as the Halloween steamer. It was included in one set in 1960, which included two other freight cars unique to that 1960 set. This steam locomotive and tender are one of the hardest postwar steamer and tender combinations to locate -- it is truly rare!
