- 19142-500 Four Car Steam Freight Set (1963)
Product Description
History
Set 19142-500 is an uncatalogued Lionel steam freight set and only available in 1963. According to popular reference books this set was produced for D. O. Klein -- which is an unknown entity at the current time. Production numbers were low with only 2,100 total sets being produced. Interestingly, this set had two different production runs:
- The first included the more common caboose to this set: a plain brown SP-style caboose with no exterior lettering nor graphics. Production numbers for this set with the plain brown caboose are estimated to be in the area of 1,600 to 1,800.
- This final production run included a harder-to-find 6120 undecorated yellow work caboose. Production numbers for this set containing the 6120 caboose are estimated to be in the area of 300 to 500 -- making this particular set extremely rare!
sold in 1963exclusively through Sears Roebuck & Co. stores during the 1961 Christmas season. Lionel's choice of rolling stock for this freight set is certainly interesting, if not odd. Included are two very tradition freight cars; a 6162 gondola and 6476 hopper, as well as two space and military items; the 3419 flatcar with Navy helicopter and a 3665 Minuteman box car with rocket. Any youngster operating this set could easily pilot a traditional freight train with the hopper and gondola or be the lead engineer of an all new, space-age train carrying state-of-the-art military items!
