2035 K-4 Pacific

History
The 2035 steam engine was classified by Lionel as a K4 Pacific steam-type engine and was designed off the real life Pennsylvania K4 Pacific locomotive. The wheel arrangement on the real K4 was a 4-6-2 as opposed to Lionel's 2-6-4 wheel arrangement. Back in the early 1950's, the 2035 steam engine was a mid-sized locomotive within Lionel's motive power roster and was considered a quality locomotive.

The 2035 was Lionels only postwar K4 Pacific steam-type engine to include Magnetraction. The 2035 shares its boiler casting with two other Lionel locomotives -- the 675 and 2025 steamers. Externally, the 2035 is similar to the 2025 from 1952 while internally the main difference is the inclusion of Magnetraction on the 2035 which does not appear on the 2025.

The 2035 was available as a separate sale locomotive as well as in several sets. During the two year production cycle, Lionel included the 2035 as the lead locomotive in three different 027 gauge freight sets. Although this steam locomotive is readily available, locating a clean, complete and undamaged 2035 steamer and tender -- especially with their original boxes -- will require some time and effort.

Features
The 2035 steam locomotive has the following features: a 2-6-4 wheel arrangement with detailed driving-wheel hardware, three-position E-unit, smoke, Magnetraction, relatively plain spoked drive wheels, sheet metal trailing truck plus ornamental bell and headlight. The number on the keystone of the boiler front was always 5690 while the tender was always the 6466W whistling tender.

The length of a 2035 6466W tender is approximately 18 1/2" long (cowcatcher to rear coupler).

Only Known Variation - Shown in first photo above. - The 2035 was only produced with a 2-6-4 wheel arrangement and always included the 6466W whistling tender.
