- 2115WS Four Car Steam Freight Set (1946)
Product Description
History
Here's Lionel's premier O gauge outfit from 1946 -- the Berkshire freight and work train set. Besides a outfit box as large as a foot-locker, Lionel included several scarce items in the set. Items such as the rubber-stamped 3451 log dump car, two-tone 2420 searchlight caboose and a multi-colored, speckled 160 dump bin are usually found in this set. Being the premier outfit of the year, production quantity was certainly fewer than the less expensive catalogued sets -- which has made this a sought-after and desirable set in today's collectors market.
As most collectors know, locating any complete Lionel train set produced in the 1940's is generally a hard task. However, locating this top-of-the-line O gauge set is truely a rarity. This particular set was originally priced at $87.50 -- quite a heafty price back in 1946! Lionel subsequently reduced the price to $72.50 -- which was still expensive for the average American family.
