- 222 Rio Grande
Product Description
Production: 1962
History
The 222 Rio Grande's only appearance in a Lionel publication was their 1962 Advanced Lionel catalogue -- it never appeared in the annual consumer catalogue. Additionally, Lionel also used this Rio Grande diesel the following year to be the lead locomotive of a small handful of promotional sets for various suppliers throughout the year.
This Also diesel is an entry level locomotive with few features -- and therefore has limited interest with today's collectors. Finding a collectable version will take some effort, but prices tend to be reasonable.
Features
Standard features of the 222 Rio Grande include: yellow painted body with black lettering, closed front pilot with ledge, traction tire, illumination and no E-unit (forward only). It also lacks a frame box between the trucks.
