2242 New Haven

Quantity:

Product Description

Production: 1958 & 1959

History
The 2242 New Haven F3 AB unit of the late 1950s is another set of quality F3 diesels produced by Lionel. Painted in the famous New Haven McGinnis white, orange and black checkerboard paint scheme, this diesel remains popular with both collectors and operators.

The 2242 was always sold as an AB combination. Even with a single motor and Magnetraction, it is a powerful locomotive. The 2242 was available as a separate sale item as well as the lead locomotive of two freight sets: set 2507W in 1958 and set 2537W in 1959. It's interesting to note Lionel catalogued this diesel as a Super-O diesel -- the only time a single-motored F3 was catalogued as a Super-O diesel.

Features
Standard features of the powered A unit include: white, orange and black painted areas over a gray shell, single motor, Magnetraction, functional horn, three-position E-unit, operating front coupler with a non-operating rear coupler. Also included is an illuminated headlight, illuminated number boards, dual ornamental horns plus rear metal ladder steps mounted on the frame.

Standard features of the non-powered B unit include: white, orange and black painted areas over a gray shell, front and rear non-operating couplers, plus metal ladder steps at each corner.

Additional Detail, Photos & Box Information
When coupled together as an AB unit, the length of these F3s is approximately 26" long (coupler to coupler).

Only Known Variation - Shown in the photo above - All New Haven F3's had silver bodies with the unique white, orange and black checkerboard sides.
