229 Minneapolis & St. Louis

Quantity:

Product Description

Production: 1961 & 1962

History
The 229 Minneapolis & St. Louis (M. & St. L.) Alco diesel is a somewhat unusual diesel produced in the early 1960's. Lionel manufactured this locomotive in two different configurations; first as a single A unit in 1961 then followed it up as an AB unit for 1962. Since fewer B units exist for this locomotive set, the AB combination is significantly harder to locate compared to a single A unit.

As with most of the later Alco series diesels, the front apron is usually the weak point and are frequently found cracked or completely missing. Finding a unit with intact struts is difficult.

Features
Standard features of the 229 include: red painted body with white lettering and a white side stripe, single-axle Magnetraction, two-position E-unit, headlight, horn plus non-operating front & rear couplers.
