History
The 2329 Virginian Rectifier was Lionels only single rectifier-style electric locomotive produced during the postwar era. This engine is based upon General Electric's real-life EL-C locomotive built in 1956. It's an unusual looking electric locomotive and sales of this model were less than Lionel expected in 1958. It is believed this diesel was only produced for a single year -- 1958 -- but catalogued in 1959 in an effort to sell excess inventory. This is a difficult item to locate.

The 2329 was catalogued with three different freight sets -- two in 1958 and a third in 1959. The 1959 set was most-likely created in an effort to sell excess 1958 inventory. All three sets were poor sellers and are difficult to locate.

Features
Standard features of the 2329 Virginian include: blue and yellow painted shell with yellow lettering, single motor, Magnetraction, three-position E-unit, operating couplers, illuminated headlight and number boards plus an ornamental horn, a single pantograph and a single nose decal. The metal frame and side railings are painted yellow.

Additional Detail, Photos & Box Information
The 2329 was sold with two small cardboard inserts and designed to fit over the top of the diesel. Because of the small insert size and awkward design, these inserts are rarely found with an original 2329 Virginian.

Only Known Variation - Shown in the photo above - All Virginians are painted blue and yellow with yellow lettering.
