Product Description
Production: 1948 & 1949
History
The 2400 Maplewood Pullman, 2401 Hillside Observation and 2402 Chatham Pullman passenger car set was manufactured for two year: 1949 & 1949. This three-car set is noteworthy in that it was Lionel's first injection-molded passenger car set ever produced! Additionally, Lionel designed the cars based upon the latest streamlined passenger cars introduced to the American rail system in the mid-1940s.
This three car set remains highly popular for both collectors and operators. Most operators will use a K-4 Pacific or Turbine locomotive to pull this set of passenger cars. Unfortunately, its green and yellow paint is easy to nick, mark or chip and most of these passenger cars are found in less than collectable condition. Clean examples are extremely difficult to find.
Lastly, the three names on the passenger cars are all towns located near Lionel's New Jersey corporate office and manufacturing facility in the late 1940's.
Features
Standard features on the 2400 Maplewood Pullman car include: green painted body with two narrow yellow stripes and yellow window outlines, gray painted roof, white lettering, non-silhouetted window strips, die-cast passenger car trucks with operating couplers plus interior illumination.
