2412, 2414 & 2416: Santa Fe Streamline

Quantity:

Product Description

Production: 1959 - 1963

History
In 1959, Lionel introduced a new roadname to their streamline series of passenger cars: Santa Fe. The initial offering were three cars; the 2412 Observation, 2414 Pullman and 2416 Observation. During the five year production run, Lionel created five different four-car sets, two having the 3428 box car with three passenger cars and three outfits with four passenger cars -- each having the 2412 or 2414 duplicated within the set. In all cases, the five sets were lead by a Santa Fe Alco AA diesel, either the 208 or 218.

The exterior silver paint on these passenger cars has generally held up better versus the silver passenger cars from the early to mid-1950's. Additionally, these passenger cars did not receive individual names on the sides and simply have Santa Fe printed along the top roof edge.

Features
Standard features on the 2412, 2414 and 2416 set include: painted silver bodies with a wide blue stripe running along each side, blue lettering, silhouetted window strips, die-cast passenger car trucks with operating couplers plus interior illumination.

Additional Detail, Photos & Box Information
The early two-tone passenger cars with black stripes are harder to locate than the single color passenger cars.

Only Known Variation - Shown in first photo above - All 2412, 2414 and 2416 passenger cars have silver bodies with a wide blue stripe and blue lettering.
