Product Description
Production: 1945 - 1949
History
The 308 Yard Sign Set was first introduced by Lionel during its prewar era and was available for three years between 1940 - 1942. When postwar production began after the war, Lionel re-introduced this accessory and it was available for another five years. However, due to the small signs, it is not easy to locate this set in complete, collectable condition. Generally, there are some damaged or broken signs.
Original boxes are generally faded on the exterior. Crisp, vibrant colored boxes are rare.
Features
Standard features on the 308 Yard Sign Set include: die-cast base, pole and sign painted with a white enamel color and highlighted with black lettering.
Original display-type inserts for the boxes are usually missing or damaged. A complete box insert will command a premium. The set always included the following five signs:
- W (whistle)
- Danger Do Not Trespass
- Railroad Crossing
- Yard Limit
- RR
