6015 Sunoco

Quantity:

Product Description

Production:  1954 & 1955

History
The 6015 Sunoco Tank Car was the first short single-dome tank cars to be produced with regular Lionel production bar-end trucks -- and not the inexpensive Scout or Scout-type trucks. It's external graphics are similar to the 1005 from the late 1940's.

The 6015 was included in several 027 starter sets of the mid-1950's. Although there is minimal collector interest in this tank car, it's somewhat hard to find with complete graphics and lettering. Worn graphics and lettering are the norm for this tanker since frequent handling generally wore off most of this detail.

Features
Standard features of the 6015 were minimal. It included: yellow painted body with black lettering, single dome tank, blackened-metal frame and bar-end truck with operating couplers plus a two-color Sunoco herald oon each side.

Additional Detail, Photos & Box Information
The very earliest production from 1954 used gray shells which were painted yellow. The gray tanker shells were simply left-over inventory from the 6035 tank car produced in 1954 and painted yellow for the 6015.

Painted Yellow Tank Body - These were produced in early 1954 and are very difficult to locate.
Molded Yellow Tank Body - Shown in the photo above The common version has a molded yellow tank body.
