Product Description
Prodution: 1957 & 1958
History
The 602 Seaboard NW2 Switcher was introduced in 1957 as an 027 gauge diesel. The external appearance it is very similar to the 601 Seaboard switcher offered in 1956. Of the two Seaboard switchers, the 601 is preferred as it has dual operating couplers -- a feature lacking on the 602. This is unfortunate, since a switcher is frequently used to couple and uncouple freight cars in a freight yard.
It was available as a separate sale item in both years, 1957 and 1958. However, Lionel only included this diesel in one 027 gauge freight set in 1957.
Features
Standard features of the 602 Seaboard switcher include: black and red painted body with white lettering, two-axle Magnetraction, die-cast trucks, three-position E-unit, operating headlight and working horn. It is also equiped with two non-operating plastic couplers, a gold simulated bell and a silver ornamental horn.
Additional Detail, Photos & Box Information
The length of the 602 is approximately 12 1/2" long (coupler to coupler).
Only Known Variation - Shown in first photo above - All 602's are painted black and red with white lettering.
