- 624 Chesapeake & Ohio
Product Description
Production: 1952 - 1954
History
The 624 Chesapeake & Ohio NW2 switcher was another high quality switcher produced by Lionel in the early to mid 1950s. Throughout the years these diesels have proven to be reliable and durable. Unfortunately, a common problem with the 624's are its decals. They are prone to flaking and peeling. Collector condition units with perfect decals are extremely difficult to locate.
Somewhat surprisingly, Lionel never included the 624 NW2 switcher in any train outfit during its production cycle. It was only available as a separate sale locomotive.
Features
Standard features of the 624 includes: two axle Magnetraction, three-position E-unit, headlight at each end, dual operating coil type couplers, front marker lights, wire handrail plus C&O decals, black ornamental bell, silver ornamental horn and a radio wheel.
Additional Detail, Photos & Box Information
The only variation to the 624 diesel is the number of stanchions holding the wire handrail to the cab.
Ten stanchions holding handrail - Shown in second photo above - The less common variation from 1952.
Three stanchions holding handrail - (First photo above) - The more common three stanchion variation is believed to have been manufactured in 1953 and 1954.
