Product Description
Production: 1962
History
Lionel's 633 Santa Fe NW2 Switcher was only manufactured for a single year -- 1962 -- and is one of the scarcest NW2 postwar switchers. Due to its limited production numbers and high interest by collectors, locating a nice and clean 633 will be difficult and expensive.
Lionel offered this diesel in only one consumer catalogue set (# 11212), which was nicknamed "The Cyclone". However, it also included the 633 switcher as the lead locomotive for six uncatalogued retailer sets for companies such as Sears Roebuck, JC Penney and others. Five of these retailer outfits were available in 1962 while the final uncatalogued set was offered in 1963, most likely to deplete unsold inventory.
Features
Standard features of the 633 Santa Fe switcher include: blue molded body with yellow lettering and stripes, sheet-metal frame with black end- railings, traction-tire, plastic-sided trucks, two-position E-unit plus an illuminated headlight and non-operating coupler on the rear.
The 633 is an entry-level locomotive. It does not include any additional trim usually found on switchers such as a simulated gold bell, ornamental silver horn nor a front coupler!
Additional Detail, Photos & Box Information
The length of the 633 is approximately 12 1/2" long (coupler to coupler).
Only Known Variation - Shown in first photo above - All 633's are molded in blue plastic with yellow lettering and side stripes.
