History
The 6428 Post Office box car was a new item for the 1960 Lionel product line. This freight car was simply a non-operating version of the 3428 United States Post Office box car introduced the previous year. Both the 3428 and 6428 are colorful freight car wearing the patriotic colors of the United States and have become a favorite item for both operators and collectors and remains in demand in today's train market.
The 6428 was included in one diesel freight set in 1965 and 1966. This set, numbered 12800, was lead by a Boston & Maine diesel and most of the freight cars worn a red, white or blue primary color and is one of the more attractive and colorful freight sets offered during the 1960's.
Features
The 6428 is build from a 6464 style box car. Standard features include a gray shell painted red, white and blue with black and white lettering, multi-block sliding doors, AAR trucks with dual operating couplers plus a single brakewheel.
