6445 Fort Knox Gold Reserve Box Car

Quantity:

Product Description

Production: 1961 - 1963

History
The 6445 Fort Knox Gold Reserve car is a highly imaginative freight car created by the Lionel design team. Imagine a real-life box car -- with piles of gold bullion's visible through side windows -- traveling along the rails. This can only be accomplished in Lionelville!

The 6445 Fort Knox Gold Reserve car is another example of Lionel designers using existing tooling to create a new freight car. The body mold is the same as the 3435 Aquarium Car first produced in the late 1950s. The simulated gold bullion's were new to this car and never used again during the postwar era.

Features
The 6445 box car included the following standard features: silver painted body with black lettering, coin slot on the top, two clear side windows on each side, AAR trucks with operating couplers, metal frame, a single brakewheel plus a simulate gold bullion pile inside the car.

Additional Detail, Photos & Box Information
As with most silver freight cars from the postwar era, the silver is frequently worn or faded. Clean examples will command a premium.

Only Known Variation - Shown in first photo above - All Fort Knox Gold Reserve cars are painted silver with black lettering.
