Product Description
Production: 1954, 1955, 1968 & 1969
History
The 6464-200 Pennsylvania box car has the unofficial title as being the least decorated box car -- in terms of lettering and graphics -- in the entire 6464 freight car series. Even with minimal graphics, its strikingly realistic color and prototypical lettering continue to make it a favorite of collectors and operators.
The 6464-200 Pennsylvania box car is a not a common box car, plus it's usually is found in less than nice condition. Trying to locate a clean, collector quality example will take a bit of time to find. Additionally, this Pennsylvania box car was never included in any Lionel catalogued set. This fact is somewhat surprising as the demographic of Lionel train buyers were predominately based on the east coast of the US and the Pennsylvania railroad was located directly within this customer base.
Features
The 6464-200 box car included the following standard features: tuscan-painted shell with white lettering, sliding doors plus a single brakewheel. All 6464-200s are equipped with bar-end trucks, including the later 1968 & 1969 production variation.
There are two differences between earlier and later production 6464-200's. First, all early production versions (1954 & 1955) included the 'New 5-53' lettering to the left of the sliding door -- while the later production version is lacking this detail. Secondly, the earlier versions have a single block on the sliding doors -- later versions have multi-block doors.
