Product Description

Production:  1955 - 1959

History
The 6464-275 State of Maine box car was introduced in 1955. It's a colorful box car and is sometimes confused with Lionel's U.S. Post Office car. The red, white and blue colors continue to make this an attractive car for both the operators and collectors. Additionally, a year after the 6464-275 was introduced, Lionel created an operating version of the State of Maine box car. The operating version is 3494-275 and has the same appeal to the operators and collectors.

Lionel included the 6464-275 is quite a variety of sets during its production in the late 1950's. There were a total of six outfits to include the State of Maine boxcar. These sets included 027, O and Super-O outfits as well as sets having steam locomotives, FM Trainmaster and F3 diesels as the lead locomotive.

Features
The 6464-275 box car included the following standard features: painted white red or blue side stripes on the shell (depending upon the mold color of the box car), black lettering, multi-block sliding doors (also painted red, white and blue), operating couplers plus a single brakewheel.

The box car was originally produced with bar-end trucks. When it was re-issued in 1957, AAR trucks became the standard truck for the box car.
