Product Description
Production: 1956, 1957 & 1966
History
The 6464-450 Great Northern box car was one of only a select few 6464-style box cars having two independent production runs. The attractive and realistic graphics on this car continue to make it a favorite of collectors and operators.
The 6464-450 box car was produced with thin yellow stripes painted horizontally on each of the doors. However, one of the more common factory errors is a version without the yellow stripes printed on each side door. Lastly, the Great Northern box car was included in only two freight sets. The first was an 027 gauge steam freight set in 1957 and the second was an O gauge freight set in 1966.
Features
The 6464-450 box car included the following standard features: olive shell with orange and silver painted exterior colors, multi-block sliding doors, single brakewheel plus a Great Northern decal to the right of the sliding door.
The 1956 and 1957 production run included bar-end trucks while the later 1966 version had AAR trucks. In either case the box car always came with two operating couplers. The 1966 version is harder to find.
Additional Detail, Photos & Box Information
Lettering on the 6464-375 sides was available in either red or maroon. It appears both colors were available in both production runs. The maroon lettering is slightly harder to locate than the red lettering.
