Product Description
Production: 1957, 1958 & 1966
History
The 6464-650 Rio Grande box car was one of only a select few 6464-style box cars having two independent production runs. The bright colors and realistic graphics on this car continue to make it a favorite of collectors and operators.
The 6464-650 box car was only included in one 027 gauge freight set in 1957. Lastly, this box car will occasionally surface without the black stripe on the side -- which is considered a factory error and not part of a scheduled production run.
Features
The 6464-650 box car included the following standard features: unpainted yellow shell with a painted silver roof and painted silver band on the lower portion of each side, black stripe separating each color, black lettering, multi-block sliding doors, single brakewheel plus operating couplers.
The 1957 and 1958 production run included bar-end trucks while the later 1966 version had AAR trucks. In either case the box car always came with two operating couplers. The 1966 version is harder to find.
Additional Detail, Photos & Box Information
There is a very rare -- almost scarce -- variation to this car which has a gray shell and is painted both yellow and silver.
Bar-End Trucks - Shown in first photo above - The common variation.
