6640 Missile Launcher

Quantity:

Product Description

Production:  1960

History
The 6640 Missile Launcher car is a one-year-only item from 1960 and is the rarest of all missile launcher cars. This freight car was an uncatalogued item and only available in one catalogued set -- # 1805, The Land, Air & Sea Set -- and one distributor set produced for Sears in 1961.

The 6640 is similar to the 6630 and 6650 Missile Launcher cars produced by Lionel in the late 1950s and early 1960s. While the flatcar and missile launching mechanism are structurally identical on all three, the only difference is the color of the flatcar and launcher.

Features
Standard features of the 6640 include: olive flatcar with white lettering, AAR trucks with two operating couplers plus a brakestand and brakewheel.

The missile firing superstructure is always olive with a black missile launcher. Original missiles are a two-piece unit and usually found with a mixture of red and white components.

Additional Detail, Photos & Box Information
An individual box does not exist for this item and the length of this flatcar is approximately 11 1/4" long (coupler to coupler).

Only Known Variation - Shown in first photo above - All 6630's are olive flatcars with a olive and black superstructure. It is a rare car.
