6818 Transformer Flatcar

Quantity:

Product Description

Production:  1958

History
The 6818 Transformer car was offered by Lionel for only one year, 1958. Although the 6818 only lasted one year, it is fairly easy to locate one as it was included in four 027 gauge freight sets in 1958 sets as well as being available as a separate sale item. It is interesting to note of the four 027 gauge sets, one was lead by an NW2 diesel switcher and the remaining three had a Prairie steamer as the locomotive of choice by Lionel.

As with Lionel's other transformer cars -- the 2461, 6418 and 6461-- each of these freight cars have the same weak point: their transformer insulators are extremely fragile. It is difficult to find this car with original and undamaged insulators. Additionally, original coils are generally faded to a light yellow color -- simply due to their age.

Features
The 6818 Transformer car has the following standard features: unpainted red flatcar with white lettering, AAR trucks with two operating couplers, a black transformer with white lettering plus a brakewheel stand and brakewheel.
