- 6826 Flatcar with Christmas Trees
Product Description
Production: 1959 & 1960
History
The 6826 flatcar with simulated Christmas trees was available for two years. Its unique and imaginative load ironically blends in well with the theme of Lionel trains running around a Christmas tree each year. Although this freight car was available for two years, sales were lackluster and this item has become rather difficult to locate these days.
The simulated Christmas trees are reportedly nothing more than weeds growing around the Lionel factory in 1959. Due to their age, unfortunately original Christmas trees have deteriorated and are extremely fragile when found today. The method to secure the trees to the flatcar have varied. The most common method is having four metal stakes mounted to the top of the flatcar. However, some original flatcars used the 6418-9 elastic band and a few even used both the stakes and elastic band.
Features
The 6826 flatcar contains the following standard features: unpainted red flatcar with white lettering, a brakewheel stand and brakewheel, corner footsteps, AAR trucks with operating couplers plus four metal stakes. Additionally, a group of simulated Christmas tree were included as the load for the freight car.
Additional Detail, Photos & Box Information
The length of this type of flatcar is approximately 9.25" long (coupler to coupler).
Only Known Variation - Shown in first photo above - All 6826 flatcars were red flatcars with white side lettering.
