- 6844 Missile Carrying Flatcar
Product Description
Production: 1959 & 1960
History
The 6844 Missile Carrying Flatcar was only available for two year and has the dubious distinction of having the highest stock number of any postwar Lionel freight car or locomotive.
This freight car has a gray superstructure designed to carry six 44-40 missiles. Although the 6844 is a common, simple-looking freight car, it is frequently found with one -- or several -- broken missile support pins. Like most other postwar freight cars with removable loads, the value in a 6844 is locating an original, undamaged car with its six original missiles.
The 6844 is part of Lionel's "Space & Military" series. As with many of the items from that series, there are delicate parts that are prone to damage due to improper handling.
Features
Standard features of this car include: unpainted flatcar with white lettering, gray missile support superstructure, a brakewheel stand with brakewheel, corner footsteps, AAR trucks with operating couplers plus six #44-40 missiles.
