71 Lamp Post

History
The 71 Lamp Post is a fairly accurate copy of a lamp post found in many cities throughout the United States during the 1940s. Because of their low price when originally introduced (only $0.85 in 1949!!), the 71 Lamp Post was a big sales success and is therefore a common item in todays marketplace.

This 71 Lamp Post was a simplified and cost-reduced version of the 35 Lamp Post produced by Lionel up until 1949. Unfortunately, two common problems exist with these lamps regarding the globe. First, they are frequently found with hairline cracks and secondly (to a lesser degree) are usually discolored or faded to a light shade of yellow.

Features
Standard features on the 71 Lamp Post include the following: gray lamp post and a white or off-white plastic globe. The 71 always used a bayonet-based lamp and was pre-wired and does not include wire terminals or clips.
