The 110 Trestle Set was first offered by Lionel in 1955 and is both a popular item as well as easy accessory to locate. The trestle set permitted layouts to become even more three dimensional as tracks could be elevated and lowered over items such as tracks, simulated rivers, roads and much more. Additionally, when used in conjunction with one of Lionel trestle bridges, a layout become very impressive.
Features
The 110 Trestle Set included the following items: Twenty-four trestle piers, metal track clamps and the appropriate amount of mounting hardware. The majority of trestle sets were produced in gray, however some black sets do exist. Trestle sets were sold with 22 piers and 2 spacers. These spacers were intended to be used under the track prior to the lowest pier.
Additionally, the mounting hardware was simplified sometime around 1958. Initially, all trestle sets included a complex four piece hardware components to attach a track section to an elevated pier. This was simplified to a single U shaped bracket and single screw in the late 1950's.
