2016 Lionel Lines Prairie

History
Lionel classified the 2016 steam engine as a Prairie-type steamer. It is a mid-size locomotive and shares its boiler casting with several other Lionel locomotives: the 637, 2018, 2026, 2029, 2036 and 2037 steamers. Although the boiler castings are the same on these steamers, in most cases the internal workings are slightly different.

The 2016 is a low-cost prairie steamer compared to other Lionel Prairie steam locomotives. For the most part, Lionel usually included an illuminated headlight, Magnetraction, smoke, three-position E-unit and a whistling tender with their Prairie steamers. The 2016, however, lacked both smoke and Magnetraction. Lastly, a 6026W Lionel Lines whistling tender was always paired with the 2016 Prairie steam locomotive.

Lionel included the 2016 in only one set -- set # 1000 from 1955 containing two freight cars and a caboose, all entry level items.

Features
The 2016 has the following standard features: 2-6-4 wheel arrangement, black boiler with white numbers, limited driving wheel hardware, three-position E-unit, sheet metal trailing truck plus an illuminated headlight and an ornamental bell. The 2016 does not have Magnetraction nor a functional smoke unit.

The 2016 was always produced with a 6026W whistling tender.

The length of a 2016 is approximately 10 1/4" (pilot to drawbar). The combined length of a 2016 with the 6026W tender is approximately 19" long (cowcatcher to rear coupler).

Only Known Variation - All 2016 steamers are painted black with a 2-6-4 wheel arrangement.
