History
The 3376 Giraffe car is essentially a stock car which Lionel modified to accommodate a bobbing giraffe head. This fantasy-notion car made use of a new concept introduced in 1960 where a giraffe's head disappears inside the car after passing under a telltale.
Features
The 3376 was introduced with the following features: unpainted blue body with white lettering, AAR trucks, two operating couplers plus a yellow giraffe. In most cases the giraffe has brown spots; however plain yellow giraffes do exist. The plain yellow giraffe is harder to find.
Listed below are the changes in year order:
- 1960 - Introduced as listed above.
- 1964 - One operating and one fixed coupler replace the two operating couplers.
- Circa 1965 - Green body with yellow lettering replaced the blue body with white lettering.
- 1969 - Blue body with yellow lettering appears as a one-year-only item.
