- 3451 Flatcar w/ Logs
Product Description
Production: 1946 - 1948
History
The 3451 Operating Log Dump car was introduced in 1946 and was a popular item. Except for its number changing to 3461 in 1949 -- reflecting the change from coil couplers to magnetic couplers -- the car ran basically unchanged until 1955.
All operating log dump cars are popular cars, both in the 1950's and with the operators and collectors of today. The 3451 is the perfect car to be used with Lionel's 164 Log Loader or 364 Log Conveyor accessory. Because of the high play value of the dump cars, especially when used with either accessory, many of these cars today are found in less than collectable condition. Locating a collectable version will require some effort.
Features
The 3451 is a high quality operating car made by Lionel. Standard features include: die-cast frame, sheet-metal operating dump frame, eight metal side stakes, staple-end trucks with operating couplers, a single brakewheel and brakestand plus five wooden logs.
Additional Detail, Photos & Box Information
Heat Stamped Lettering - Shown in first photo above - The most common variation of the 3451 is black with white heat stamped lettering and available for all three production years.
Rubber Stamped Lettering (Second photo above) - For a very brief period in 1946, the lettering and numbers were rubber-stamped onto each side. The rubber-stamped version is extremely hard to locate.
