6050 Lionel Savings Bank, Swift or Libby's

History
The 6050 savings bank box car was introduced in 1961. With the creation of the 6050, Lionel introduced a new feature on its otherwise common short box car. A coin slot was added to the top of the box car. Although it was another example of a novel idea from Lionel, the concept never gained much popularity. The savings bank box car was then discontinued only three years after it was introduced.

During its brief production run, the 6050 was manufactured with three different advertisers. Originally introduced as the Lionel Lines Saving Bank box car in 1961, it also wore the Swift and Libby's Tomato Juice logos.

Features
Standard features of the 6050 were sparse and included: unpainted white body (unpainted red body for the Swift version) and non-opening doors on each side.

Trucks for the Lionel Lines or Swift version were generally any combination of fixed or operating couplers on AAR trucks. In addition, the Libby's Tomato Juice box car is always found with non-operating couplers on arch-bar style trucks.

The length of these short box cars are approximately 8 1/2" long (coupler to coupler).

Lionel Savings Bank:

• Blt By Lionel - Shown in first photo above. The common version has the word 'Built' (to the right of the side doors) abbreviated as 'Blt'.
• Built By Lionel (Second photo above) - A difficult variation to locate has the word 'Built' spelt out.

Swift's Premium (Third photo above) - Produced in 1962 and 1963 and is the most common car.

Libby's Tomato Juice (Fourth photo above) - This was an uncatalogued savings bank car from 1963 and is the hardest savings bank car to find.
