- 6356 New York Central Stock Car
Product Description
Production: 1954 & 1955
History
The 6356 New York Central Bi-Level Stock Car was available for only two years -- 1954 and 1955. This style freight car was classified as a bi-level stock car and was also catalogued under two other stock numbers -- the 6376 circus stock car and the 6556 Missouri, Kansas & Texas stock car. Even though this stock car was only manufactured for two years, it is readily available in today's market.
Lionel went all-in during 1954 and included the 6356 New York Central bi-level stock car in four sets! One was an 027 gauge steam freight set while the remaining three were O gauge sets -- one lead by a steam locomotive and the remaining two had an F3 at the front for the diesel power. Somewhat surprisingly, Lionel did not include this stock car in any 1955 set.
Features
Standard features on the 6356 include: yellow painted body with black lettering, four sliding opening doors, single brakewheel plus bar-end trucks with tab couplers.
Additional Detail, Photos & Box Information
The length of the 6356 stock car is approximately 11 1/2" long (coupler to coupler).
Large 'Built By Lionel' - Shown in first photo above - The first few production cycles of 1954 used a larger printing of the letters 'Built By Lionel' (to the left of the opening doors). The earliest versions are rubber-stamped and are extremely difficult to locate.
Small 'Built By Lionel' (Second photo above)- The common production variation from 1954 and throughout all 1955 used a smaller printing for the 'Built By Lionel' lettering. This is the most common variation.
