6402 Flatcar w/ Freight Load

Production: 1962, 1964 - 1966 & 1969

History
The 6402 was available throughout the 1960's and included in some catalogued sets, but numerous uncatalogued and promotional sets. From 1962 through 1966, the standard load were two cable reels. Then for 1969, the load changed to a single blue boat. In all instances, the loads were secured by a single elastic band which was secured to two tiny projections at each end of the flatcar.

Features
The 6402 flatcar contains the following standard features: unpainted gray flatcar, no side lettering plus AAR trucks. The trucks are usually include one functional and one non-operating coupler. Finally, the 6401 never included wire truss rods on the bottom of the flatcar.

Lastly, the freight load in the early to mid-1960's was two orange cable reels. For 1969, the load switched to a single blue hull boat.

The length of this type of flatcar is approximately 9.25" long (coupler to coupler).

Only Known Variation - Shown in first photo above - All 6401's flatcars were gray with either the two cable reels or a blue boat.
