- 6461 Transformer Flatcar
Product Description
Production: 1949 & 1950
History
The 6461 Transformer car is simply a continuation of the 2461 Transformer car from the prior year -- with the color of the transformer changing to black. It is a fairly accurate representation of a real railroad car designed to haul large and heavy cargo.
As with Lionel's other transformer cars -- the 2461, 6418 and 6818 -- all transformer flatcars are extremely fragile and having the same weak point: their transformer insulators. It is difficult to find this car with original and undamaged insulators.
Features
The 6461 Transformer car has the following standard features: painted gray flatcar with black lettering, two staple-end trucks with operating magnetic couplers, brakewheel stand and brakewheel at each end plus a metal footstep at each corner.
The transformer has white lettering and four insulators mounted on top. The transformer was always black.
Additional Detail, Photos & Box Information
Original transformer cars with undamaged insulators, original box and insert are difficult to locate.
Only Known Variation - Shown in first photo above - This is the only known variation to the 6461 Transformer car.
