- 6464-175 Rock Island
Product Description
Production: 1954 & 1955.
History
The 6464-175 Rock Island box car was introduced in Lionel's second year of 6464 box car production -- when a total of six all new road names appeared in the catalogue! Its graphics and color are plain and unexciting. Actually, the 6464-175 Rock Island carries the exact same lettering and graphics as the previous years Rock Island offering (6464-75), but with different colors.
Due to the plain look of the 6464-175, this car has not created much interest in the collector market. Examples with extremely clean silver painted shells will be in demand as the silver has tended to fade or deteriorate with age. Lastly, Lionel included this freight car in only one O gauge set in 1954 -- which was lead by the popular 682 turbine.
Features
The 6464-175 box car included the following standard features: painted silver shell with blue lettering, single-block sliding doors, bar-end trucks with two operating couplers plus a single brakewheel. This box car is always found on a type I body mold.
