- 6530 Firefighting Instruction Box Car
Product Description
Production: 1960 - 1962
History
The 6530 Firefighting Instruction car was a new item for the 1960 Lionel product line. However, the roots of this freight car go back to 1956 with the introduction of the 3530 Electro Mobile Power car. Although the exterior colors are different, the basic body molds of each car are identical. The 6530 is simply a non-operating version of the 3530.
It is interesting to note each side of the car is molded differently -- a technique Lionel rarely built into their freight cars. Experienced collectors believe this car was only produced in 1960 and 1961 with excess inventory sold in 1962. Lastly, the 6530 appeared in three Lionel sets; one 027 gauge freight set in 1960 and one Super O freight set in both 1961 and 1962.
Features
Standard features of the 6530 include: molded red body with white lettering, two unpainted sliding white doors on each side plus a single brakewheel and AAR trucks with functional couplers on each truck.
