Product Description

Producyion: 1959, 1960, 1964 - 1966

History
The 3434 is commonly known as the Chicken Sweeper Car, however, Lionel's official catalogue name was the Poultry Dispatch Box Car. It's an interesting car and contained yet another new innovation for Lionel -- a miniature man simulating cleaning the interior of the chicken car.

Although the 3434 had two production runs, it remains a somewhat hard freight car to locate in complete and operating condition. The interior mechanism is fragile and usually damaged or broken.

Features
The 3434 chicken sweeper car included the following standard features: painted brown shell with white lettering, unpainted gray sliding doors with black lettering, interior illumination, single brakewheel plus a rubber man with a broom and plastic inserts painted with chickens.

Early production in 1959 and 1960 had bar-end trucks with operating couplers and a blue man with painted features. Later production (1964 to 1966) had AAR trucks and an unpainted gray figure.

Additional Detail, Photos & Box Information
The length of the 3434 box car is approximately 11 1/4" long (coupler to coupler).

Bar-End Trucks - Shown in first photo above - Slightly more common than the later version, but also the preferred version with metal trucks and a more realistic figure with painted face and hands.
AAR Trucks - Slightly harder to locate, but not as sought after as the earlier version with AAR trucks and unpainted gray figure.
